About
My name is Stephen Berkemeier
I'm a trained therapist (MSW), professional media composer, and passionate storyteller who loves blending psychology and music to bring emotions and characters to life.
Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Award-Winning Playwright Darius M. Buckley, crafting original music for his plays Thin Places, The Bridge, and Leo's Requiem. These works have garnered praise from celebrated artists like Lynn Nottage and David Henry Hwang. I’ve also teamed up with the New York-based dance troupe Pertazzer Co. to create original music for their latest production, Foot Fall.
As an educator, I’ve published a textbook called The Musical Storyteller: Translating Worlds, Characters, and Emotions into Music and partnered with the Indie Film Music Contest to design the curriculum for their online course, "Intro to Film Scoring." I’ve also recently joined forces with Cinesamples and Quetzal Sounds to host a composing competition, giving emerging composers a chance to have their music heard and showcased to new audiences.
When I’m not composing, I’m passionate about teaching and running a YouTube channel called "Tabletop Composer," where I share my love for music and storytelling with a growing community of followers.
